When I get depressed I don’t want to eat at all, why is this?
Sometimes when you are depressed, your appetite suppresses and you may have little motivation to prepare balanced meals. You can also become more lethargic so this leads to a decrease in drive to eat. Other studies show that when you are depressed some foods can seem less appetizing.
When I get depressed I eat too much, why is this?
Sometimes when you are depressed you may tend to eat more because it can provide a temporary high. Some people get a rush of dopamine (pleasure chemical) to the brain when presented with certain foods.
Is my depression related to weight gain?
Depression can be related to weight gain, only if you are using food as a coping mechanism for your depressive symptoms. Weight gain and depression can be related as part of a vicious cycle. For example, you are depressed so you eat, now you have gained weight and you are depressed because of the weight gain. Now you eat more because you are depressed, and so goes the cycle….
What foods should I stay away from if I am feeling depressed?
There are some studies that show that caffeine, alcohol, sugars, fried foods, deli meats, hot dogs, packaged foods such as granola bars, and any food with food coloring or dyes have been linked to an increase in depression. Decreasing your intake of these foods, could help your mood.
