Feeling ‘off’ or like you’re ‘going through it’ in any way? Or, are you simply wanting a more well-rounded approach to looking at your life?

If so, there are four different ways we can approach figuring out which area of our lives may need some more attention. We will be diving into each of these ways individually, and this is called a ‘holistic’ approach.

As human beings, we exist on the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. Each level is a crucial part of our human experience that, when taken into full consideration, can hold great opportunities for growth. When discussing the topics of healing, or just getting to know ourselves better, looking at each of these levels individually can be an interesting approach to addressing all these different parts, especially the ones that may want a second look.

Now, it’s very important to note here that just because a part of us may need some healing in order to fully process and release certain events that may have happened in our lives, does not mean that we are “broken” or “damaged” in any way. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. We are inherently whole and perfect just as we are. When painful things happen in our lives, they affect us on each of these levels whether we are aware of it or not. So, seeing and addressing all the parts or levels within us (without judging any of them) often makes us feel whole, alive, and unconditionally loved.

Offering nothing but unconditional love to the parts of us that are hurting is so crucial in the healing process. When doing healing work, it’s important to keep a ‘lens of self-love’ as we dive into these areas of growth.

That all being said, we will do a series of ‘exercises’ for each of the levels, this article’s individual level being Mental.

Exercise:

Get in a comfortable position and center yourself in whichever way you feel like. Take a deep breath. Try to breathe into your belly when you inhale and extend your exhale longer than your inhale just a bit if that feels comfortable for you. Once you are centered, ponder this question:

Have you ever thought about your thoughts? Try to observe them from a perspective that is not emotionally involved with them. See if you can watch them on a screen in your mind. Notice that you are not the thoughts, you are the one simply watching them. Sit in that feeling for as long as you want. No need to form any opinions about what you may be thinking, just simply watch it.

Practice this throughout the day and see what you start to notice, all while unconditionally loving whatever you see within.
